The Carbon Athletic Club, located at 111 Gates St in Detroit’s Delray neighborhood, is a members-only social club with a rich history dating back to 1947. Originally rooted in the early 1900s as the Woodmere Athletic Club, it was officially incorporated as the Carbon Athletic Club in 1947, reflecting the area’s industrial heritage, particularly the nearby Michigan Carbon Works.

Over the decades, the club has served as a community hub, hosting sports teams, social events, and community gatherings. Despite the decline of Delray due to industrialization and depopulation, the Carbon Athletic Club has remained a steadfast presence, adapting by welcoming younger members and hosting public events like live music shows.
